Tim Dickey and Julie Charland have been singing together since the 1980's. In 2007 we decided to make an effort to develop a new repertoire, and we started performing as Toast & Jam, with bassist/vocalist Laird Boles, in 2008. This led to more writing for the group, and to a recording project, we released "Ten Slices" in July of '09. That season saw several awards for songwriting, and our first appearance at a bluegrass festival. One song from the CD, "Echoes of War" was invited into "Acoustic Rainbow #35", and released to 1300 radio stations in 2010. The song wound up getting documented airplay in 8 countries, and we received positive feedback from DJ's in Europe, Canada, as well as the US. Though we perform most often as a trio in smaller venues, we use fiddlers when we can, these have included Texas Style champion Luke Price (on the Ten Slices CD); Art Schatz (also in the Reunion Band); and Andy Reiner (also in Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers) ). Tim will be familiar to those that remember the Provincetown Jug Band, which played summers, 7 nights a week, at the foot of Macmillan Wharf from 1967 through 1991 (he joined in 1977). He still appears with The Jug Band there annually, in late June. Julie's former bands included Fiddlesticks and Red Limousine, on Cape Cod; she also spent 4 years in Nashville, writing and performing. |
